In the last reading of Don't You Dare Read This Mrs. Dunphrey Tish starts to really have trouble paying the bills. There phone signal goes away, the electricity stops and all they eat are sandwiches. In light of reacent events Tish Bonner decides to shop lift. She went to Haggarty's, the place where Tish's mom worked. She put a pack of hamberger meat in her pocket but she bought a loaf of bread and two candy bars. Everyday she felt more and more guilty about shop lifting. Everyday she kept running out of food and she didn't have any money because she got fired from BurgerBoy. She finally decides to tells Mrs. Dunphrey about everything that happened. Mrs. Dumphery feels so bad because if she knew about it than she could've done something. In the end Tish and Matt sleep and Mrs. Dunphrey's house for a couple of days before they move to Florida to stay with there dads parents. Then there mom comes back to them and is going to counceling with her kids and she is making alot of progress. The kids thought that there grandparents wouldn't like them because they never saw them. Although when there grandparents explain to them that they tried to contact there dad but he told them that he didn't want them to be with the kids Tish understood. Tish now goes to a new school and she keep a new diary and the old diary from Mrs. Dumphrey. The intellectual qualities are not that good at the begenning because it is written by a girl who isn't the best student but as she keeps writting there becomes more intelletual qualities. In this part of the book it gets more and more emotional. The kids start to have more and more difficulty living because they don't have alot of food and money. There is lots of climax in the part of the book because Tish shoplift's, she looses her job and she finally tell Mrs.Dunphrey everthing. There isn't alot of dialogue because when there is dialogue Tish talks about it her diary. It is helpful becasue it helps explain what is happening. The major theme in this part of the book is Tish telling Mrs.Dunphrey about what has happened in the last year: there parents leaving them, she being abused by her father etc. As the major them happens it becomes more and more clear on what happend after she told her. The theme is traditional because many times in books there parents leave but then after a while they meet up again. The theme is social because Tish still has touble telling someone about her situation with her parents. -Liam
In this last reading Tish cant handle living on her own and trying to pay the bills when she got fired from Burger Boy. Matt starts to get sick and he wetts his bed. When Tish realized that she has to tell somebody about her problems she goes to Mrs.Dunphrey and lets her read her whole journal from beginning to end. Mrs. Dunphrey lets them sleep in her house until they can find a home. Matt and Tish end up moving to Florida with their grandparents, Nana and Popy. Her mom and her are going to councelling and her mom is becoming more of a mom. There is a lot of suspence because we dont know were they would end up and if the mom was going to come back. The elemntes of mystery was that we didnt know if Tish and Matt's mom was going to come back for them and be a real mom to her kids and what will happen to them now that they are by themselves. All of the plots are basically the same. The plot is primary.
I agree with Yael. There is alot of suspence in this part of the book because we don't know where she will end up after Mrs.Dunphrey tells the authorities. I also disagree with Yael because i think that we always knew that she wasn't going to come back for the kids. Great Job, Yael! -Liam
The last chapter of the book was definitely the best. Everything came together and it all makes sense now. The mother is a horrible person for putting a kid through that. And the father wasn’t any better. They are both horrible parents and can barley take care of themselves. In my opinion, I think Mrs. Dumphrey was reading the journal all along, and she was doing something about it, but secretly until the end. Something always happened to Tish and Matt that was good, then bad, then good again, then of course bad! And it continues, Until Mrs. Dunphrey stepped in. The Main character in this book really became a child again. Tish is now not working anymore, and is living with “real” Parents! In the future, if Tish’s mom and dad come home, there is going to be quite a fight. Tish and Matt will probably have to go back to their own parents and the dad will run away and so will the mom, and Tish and Matt will live with someone else!
i disagree with josh, on how she read the journal each time, some case worker would have have done some kinda of thing to put them into a foster home or something, The mom lives with the grandparents, she is not away from them josh but other than that great work everyone
I also thought that this last section of don't you dare read this Mrs. Dunphrey was the best. in the beginning more bills are sent to the home of Tish and Matt and they cant pay it so Tish was told over the phone that she could pay 5 dollars, turns out that is what the mom had done all along. The property tax of 200$ came in and if she didnt pay their house would be taken away. She couldnt pay for that. Another bad thing came along to Tish, the manager of Burger Boy retired and Bud Turner took over and fired Tish. She shoplifted to get food but didnt get caught but felt really bad, Sandy got caught for shoplifting and has to go to court with Rochelle. The electricity got turned off and so did the phones so tish decided to write an entry saying, that she wanted Mrs. Dunphrey to read all the letters she gave. she wrote back saying that they will try their best to keep Matt and her together. They got sent to there Nana and Poppy in Florida where the Mom also went and now she matt and her mom are attending counseling. In the end every thing is good and now she is living with a "real" family. The setting for this section is all over the country of the USA, her home, burger boy, school, california, florida and this plays a huge part in the whole book. This is the first time that the atmosphere is actually happy and cheerful. This was one of the best books i have read in a long time, i was happy i chose to read this one -Zach
I agree that at the very end that the atmosphere is finally happy and cheerful because throught out this book the atmosphere has been nothing but depressing. Awsome job!
